Like most NRC boards, BBCSS and the committees under its oversight often assist funding agencies in developing research programs that will deliver the greatest societal benefit. This assistance can take the form of a review of the state of knowledge surrounding a particular issue, evaluation of an agency's activities, evaluation of an agency's research plan, and/or recommendations concerning significant research needs. Additionally, the Board's interdisciplinary positioning and high standing in academic circles allows committees to assemble diverse experts, both within their memberships and at workshops and events, in order to synthesize research in novel ways to address critical problems. |
