Priorities for Strengthening the Scientific Foundation for Policymaking to Meet the Challenges of Aging in Latin America and the Caribbean
Description

A committee of international experts planned and conducted a public workshop on the process of rapid aging in the Latin American and Caribbean region (LAC). The workshop included presentations and discussions of the main areas where knowledge is insufficient and new research is required. It considered scientific research emphasizing what is unique about aging in LAC and what is similar to other processes around the world, and reviewed a data collection strategy that recognizes the uniqueness of the LAC aging process while being responsive to the needs of the research community for harmonized, highly comparable information. Workshop participants were selected and invited by the committee in cooperation with international non-governmental organizations and national academies of science in various Latin American countries.

Sponsor: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

Workshop

The workshop was held on May 28-29, 2015 in Mexico City.
