Determinants of Recent Trends in Fertility in Sub-Saharan Africa

An ad hoc committee will plan and conduct a public workshop to explore the determinants of the slow fertility transition in sub-Saharan Africa. The workshop will include presentations and discussions on the levels, trends, and differentials in fertility; reproductive preferences and their implementation; socio-economic trends and the status of family planning programs and their impact on fertility; as well as the prospects for faster declines in fertility in sub-Saharan Africa and ways they might be achieved.
