Community colleges are becoming increasingly important in emerging areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and preparation of the STEM workforce. In 2011, the National Research Council and the National Academy of Engineering hosted a national summit sponsored by the National Science Foundation which featured presentations and discussions on STEM and the changing dynamics between two- and four-year institutions of higher education. Attending were leaders from community colleges, four-year postsecondary institutions, business and industry, state and federal policymakers, and researchers with expertise in community colleges, student learning, and teaching. ► View videos from the summit
