RECENT WORKSHOP: Exploring California and Other Subnational Climate Assessments
This two-day public workshop took place on August 14-15, 2018 in Washington DC. States, counties, cities, and local stakeholders are increasingly taking the lead on climate change assessments. The state of California is currently releasing its Fourth Climate Change Assessment, which is based on nearly 50 independent research projects spanning topics ranging from wildfires and habitat loss to electricity and natural gas system resilience. This workshop engaged with people involved in all aspects of the California assessment (Day 1) as well as those involved in assessment efforts in other states (Day 2). What are the key elements of success? What challenges do decision makers face in implementing proposed interventions? NEW REPORT: Enhancing the Resilience of the Nation's Electricity System
Electricity is fundamental to our nation’s health, safety, and economy. However, extreme weather events, earthquakes, cyber attacks, and other threats have the potential to cause large-scale outages, putting lives at risk. Our new report, Enhancing the Resilience of the Nation's Electricity System, identifies promising technologies, policies, and organizational strategies that should be implemented on the federal, state, and local levels.
