In an effort to broaden the scope of science and technology cooperation, the U.S. and Egyptian governments agreed in 2015 to incorporate innovation-related activities as part of the U.S.-Egypt Science and Technology Joint Fund portfolio. These activities focus on capacity building programs that grow Egypt’s innovation ecosystem with a focus on lab to market activities. This includes investments in research, infrastructure, and human capital to support innovation ecosystems that create opportunities for individuals and promote economic growth.
Innovation activities are held with support and consultation from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the U.S. Department of State, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MHESR), the Egyptian Science and Technology Development Fund (STDF), and the National Academy of Sciences.
