On June 12-14, 2012, BGST held an international, multidisciplinary workshop on "Intelligent Human-Machine Collaboration" in Washington, DC. This workshop brought together researchers from a range of science and engineering disciplines, including robotics, human-robotic interaction, software agents/multi-agent systems, cognitive sciences, AI, and human-machine
teamwork. The participants, many of whom brought extensive international expeience, were drawn from research organizations in Australia, China, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Throughout the meeting, participants worked in small, interdisciplinary groups to identify research challenges that are yet to be overcome in intelligent human-machine collaboration in dynamic, unstructured environments. During the workshop, participants also addressed a
nticipated applications of human and machine teamwork and the impact this could have on future generations of intelligent human-machine collaboration. Participants were not asked to arrive at a consensus on any issue, but rather to identify challenges and opportunities from their diverse disciplinary and cultural perspectives.
