Paul David

 
Paul A. David is Professor of Economics (Emeritus) at Stanford University where he continues to teach for the Economics Department and the Public Policy Program. He is Senior Fellow and member of the Steering Committee of the Institute for Economic Policy Research at Stanford University [http://www-siepr.stanford.edu/people/paul_david.html]. 
 
For more a decade he has held joint academic appointments at universities in Europe, and is an Emeritus Fellow of All Souls College in the University of Oxford, and former Senior Fellow of the Oxford Internet Institute.  Currently David is Professeur Titulaire in the research program on Innovation and Competition in the Digital Economy [ http://innovation-regulation.eu] in Paris --affliated with l’Ecole Polytechnique and Telecom ParisTech, and also is Professorial Fellow of The United Nations University - Maastricht Economic and Social Research and Training Centre on Innovation and Technology (UNU-MERIT)[http://www.merit.unu.edu/about/profile.php?id=88&stage=2]
 
David’s research contributions span the economics and economic history of technological, demographic and institutional change, and have given special attention to theoretical and empirical aspects of path dependent dynamics in economic and social processes. In his policy-related work David focuses primarily on issues in the economics of science and technology, with special reference to innovation and technology adoption in ICT and network industries, and to institutional factors affecting the rate and direction of research advances in publicly funded science.
 
David’s experience as a consultant to international organizations has  included work for the World Bank, the United Nations (Commission on Trade and Development, and the UN University Institute), the OECD, several directorates of the European Commission of the EU, and the US National Academy of Science (National Research Council), and the National Science Foundation. He currently is serving as a member of the National Research Council Board on Research Data and Information, chairs the CODATA Task Group on the Global Information Commons for Science Initiative, and is a member of the Advisory Committee of Science Commons.
 
Paul David is an elected Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the British Academy, the American Philosophical Society, and the International Econometrics Society. He is former President of the Economic History Association and the current President-Elect of the Western Economics Association International.
