Each gathering is held at the Marian Koshland Science Museum in Washington, DC and features a keynote speaker. At each EINSTEIN, guests have the opportunity to hear from a leading science policy expert and to meet new and former colleagues during the evening’s reception. The first International EINSTEIN was hosted by the Policy and Global Affairs division of the National Academies on June 17th, 2010. EINSTEIN's first speaker was Dr. Alex Dehgan Science and Technology Advisor to the Administrator of the US Agency for International Development. Dr. Dehgan spoke about the greatly underutilized benefits that science can bring to international development and USAID’s new approach to revitalizing it’s ‘proper role’. He noted that the global challenges we now face in developing countries as well as in underdeveloped parts of the world do not recognize international boundaries. Climate change, infectious disease, food security and other ‘grand challenges’ all necessitate innovative science and technology approaches and a collective effort to solve them. Before the talk, guests had a chance to tour the interactive exhibits at the Koshland Museum while enjoying a light reception. The next EINSTEIN will be held this fall and will provide another opportunity for the international science policy community to meet one another and to hear perspectives from an science policy leader. Please register for Event Alerts on this page to catch the next EINSTEIN forum.
