Administrative Cost Working Group Charge I Initiatives I Documents I Committee Members Charge of the Committee The administrative cost working group is focused on identifying ways to recover more of the administrative costs related to individual sponsored project activities. The primary interest in doing so is to address the faculty concern that too much of their time is spent dealing with administrative tasks rather than research. Initiatives The primary initiative is to identify those administrative tasks which are not generally clerical, but rather germane to the management of the projects and should therefore be allowable under the current version of A-21. The group will draft a white paper describing these project management tasks and to propose a pilot for FDP schools to consistently direct charge pro-rated costs to multiple awards at levels ranging from as low as 5 percent to 10 percent to 50 percent or higher based on the specific responsibilities of the individual contract or grant. Feedback from faculty engaged in the pilot will determine whether or not additional steps should be taken, including those involving OMB.
