Sidney Altman, CHR Member

Sidney Altman is Sterling Professor of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology at Yale University.  He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, American Society of Biological Chemists, and Genetics Society of America, as well as the UNESCO International Committee on Bioethics.  He received a Ph.D. in Biophysics from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1967.  In 1989 Professor Altman, along with Thomas R. Cech, received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their discovery of catalytic RNA.  Also in 1989, he received the Rosenthal Award for Basic Biomedical Research.
