Robert Curl, CHR Member

Robert Curl is Kenneth S. Pitzer-Schlumberger Professor Emeritus of Natural Sciences in the Department of Chemistry at Rice University.  He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of The Royal Society of New Zealand.  He is also a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Optical Society, the European Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters (titulaire member), the American Chemical Society, Sigma Xi, and Phi Beta Kappa.  Professor Curl received a B.A. in 1954 from the Rice Institute and a Ph.D. in 1957 from the University of California, Berkeley.  In 1996 Professor Curl, along with Harold Kroto and Richard Smalley, received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the co-discovery of C60 and fullerenes.
