Yuet Wai Kan, CHR Member

Yuet Wai Kan is Louis K. Diamond Professor of Hematology in the Departments of Laboratory Medicine and Medicine at the School of Medicine, University of California, San Francisco.  He received a M.B., B.S. (1958) and D.Sc. (1980) from the University of Hong Kong Medical School.  Dr. Kan is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Medicine, the Royal Society of London, the Academia Sinica, Taiwan; the Third World Academy of Sciences, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing.  He has received many honorary degrees. Dr. Kan's contributions are in the fields of hematology and genetics.  His work led to the innovation of DNA diagnosis that has found wide application in many diseases. In recognition of his achievements, Dr. Kan has received many national and international awards including the Albert Lasker Clinical Medical Research Award, the Gairdner Foundation International Award, and the Shaw Prize.
