Town Halls for the Decadal Survey on Biological and Physical Sciences in Space
November 6, 2009 Town Hall at ASGSB Meeting Raleigh, NC American Society for Gravitational and Space Biology
"The annual meeting of the American Society for Gravitational and Space Biology will be held in Raleigh, North Carolina from November 5-8, 2009. The scientific committee is very excited about the program, which will include symposia on Habitation Science (chaired by Cary Mitchell), Biological Engineering and Synthetic Biology (chaired by Marshall Porterfield) and The ISS as a National Laboratory (chaired by Ken Souza)."
November 16, 2009 Town Hall at Joint LEAG/SRR Meeting Houston, TX Lead Coordinator: Bob Wegeng 6:30 to 9:00 PM at the facilities of the Lunar and Planetary Institute in Houston Lunar and Planetary Institute "As NASA prepares to return to the Moon, learning from history is important for ensuring that a sustainable and long-term lunar return is possible. The Apollo program was not sustainable. The purpose of this workshop is to bring together academic, governmental, and private sector interests to focus on the sustainability theme of the Lunar Exploration Analysis Group (LEAG)-coordinated Lunar Exploration Roadmap. The meeting will incorporate the results from the latest missions (especially the LRO/LCROSS mission) to ensure that the framework for a sustainable presence is established early in this next era of lunar exploration. The three-and-one-half day workshop will consist of contributed and invited oral presentations and contributed poster presentations centered on questions relevant to the workshop theme of sustaining lunar exploration. The meeting will be predominantly technical sessions with a town hall meeting, panel discussion, and poster session in the evenings. The town hall meeting will focus on input to the NRC study on micro/partial gravity." November 18, 2009 Town Hall at ASME Meeting Orlando, FL Lead Coordinator: Vijay Dhir 10:00 to 11:30 AM in the Americas Seminar Room, 5th Floor American Society of Mechanical Engineers - Event Calendar
"The American Society of Mechanical Engineers’ 2009 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition is one of the year's largest event focused on mechanical engineering technology and innovation. The conference will feature lectures, forums, workshops, and exhibits on cutting edge research and technology." January 6, 2010 Town Hall at AIAA Meeting Orlando, FL 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM in Grand Ballroom 13 American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics "An open discussion between NRC decadal survey committee and the AIAA microgravity research community. This is a unique and valuable opportunity for participants in the January, 2010 ASM to have significant input to this congressionally requested study, which is intended to help NASA determine the direction of research for microgravity science and exploration for the next decade." "The AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting is the first major multidisciplinary event of the year for aerospace scientists and engineers from around the world. It provides an ideal forum for scientists and engineers from industry, government, and academia to share and disseminate scientific knowledge and research results with a view toward new technologies for aerospace systems. This meeting is built around excellent technical paper presentation sessions. Plenary sessions that focus attention on program areas of current interest will start some sessions, followed by technical papers providing additional discussion of these topics. Distinguished lectures and evening networking events fill out the remainder of the program throughout the week."
