Committee on the Origins and Evolution of Life This committee is Inactive. It has been replaced by a new standing committee. 
The committee organizes and provides oversight of studies on research opportunities and programs on the origin and evolution of life in the universe, including NASA’s “astrobiology” program. In particular, the committee monitors development and implementation of related research strategies, advanced technology, and research program plans when these topics do not readily fall under the auspices of an existing discipline committee. The committee may also identify topics for scientific workshops to address timely and important topics. The committee is a joint activity with the Board on Life Sciences. The committee is now being reconstituted as part of the Committee on Astrobiology and Planetary Science (CAPS) Meeting Information The second meeting of COEL in 2011 and, in fact, the final meeting of the committee as currently organized, will take place in Woods Hole, Massachusetts on Tuesday and Wednesday, 7-8 June. The meeting will begin no earlier than 8:30 a.m. on the 7th and end no later than 5:00 p.m. on the 8th.
