Background Papers

Computer games and simulations have great potential to catalyze cognitive research based science education. However, research on how simulations and games support science learners has not kept pace with the development of new learning technologies. Based on presentations and discussions from a 2009 two-day workshop, Learning Science Through Computer Games and Simulations examines:
  • the connections between what is known about science learning and computer gaming and simulations;
  • the role computer gaming and simulations could play in assessing learning; and
  • the pathways by which they could be used on a large scale.
*This worked was sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
