NAFSA Calls for Shift in U.S. Immigration and
Visa Policy
NAFSA released a new report on December 14 titled A Visa and Immigration Policy for the Brain-Circulation Era: Adjusting to What Happened in the World While We Were Making Other Plans. The article calls on the U.S. government to adopt an approach that embraces the opportunities of a new era in global mobility and urges a comprehensive set of policy actions on the issue.  Read full report. 

Statement on Visa Delays

The presidents of the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, and Institute of Medicine joined other scientific and educational organizations in issuing a statement urging federal agencies to streamline visa processing for scholars and scientists visiting the United States.  Read the statement issued June 10, 2009.



 

 

 

 

 

 

DOS Visa Office Announces New E-mail for F/M/J Inquiries
The State Department (DOS) Bureau of Consular Affairs, the DOS Public Liaison Unit now has a Student/Exchange Visitor Visa Center! All schools and exchange sponsors can submit inquiries through the following
e-mail address: fmjvisas@state.gov.

State Department Posts Annual Student/Exchange Visitor Cable
The Department of State posted its annual student and exchange visitor visa issues cable on April 3, 2008. The cable instructs posts regarding procedures for expediting F, M, and J appointments and clarifies information on Form DS-2019.

The IVO questionnaire collects information regarding visa-related issues from the scientific community. Data will be used for the purpose of tracking trends and to assist visa applicants whenever possible.
