Committee on Assessing the Minerva Research Initiative and the Contribution of Social Science to Addressing Security Concerns
Call for Public Comments The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine committee tasked with evaluating the Minerva Research Initiative is soliciting public comments to help inform its deliberations. The Minerva Research Initiative is a Department of Defense grant program for unclassified university-based social science research aimed at improving our basic understanding of security, broadly defined.
Any comments are welcome related to the committee’s statement of task, but the committee would especially appreciate input on the following broad topics:
What are some of the impediments to conducting unclassified social science research relevant to national security within your discipline?
To what extent is there awareness of the Minerva grants within your discipline?
How could the Minerva Research Initiative cultivate greater interest in conducting national security research, especially among
young scholars?
