Bio
Dr. Adams' laboratory studies a range of problems in the population genetics and evolution. Current projects concern the molecular and biochemical analysis of the process of adaptation in microbial populations. Dr. Adams also has interests in human population genetics, he is currently working with the genetic and demographic structure of human isolates. Dr. Adams received his Ph.D. from the University of California at Davis. He has held visiting appointments at universities in Brazil, France and Germany. In 1996 he received a Faculty Recognition Award by the University. He served as Chair of the Department of Biology from 1996-2001. He serves as Associate Editor for the journals Molecular Biology and Evolution and Genetica and was Chair of the 1997 Gordon Research Conference on Microbial Population Biology.

State Department Profile
Dr. Adams accepted a position with the Bureau of Economic Growth, Agriculture and Trade at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID/EGAT).  His primary focus was the development and introduction of genetically-modified (GM) food crops to enhance agricultural production in developing countries; his contributions included drafting regulatory and policy frameworks for the conduct of field trials for GM crops.  Dr. Adams’ work in this area supported U.S strategic foreign trade policy to promote exports of U.S.-developed GM crops and agricultural technology.
