REQUIREMENTS AND DEADLINES

PREDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIALS RECEIPT DEADLINE:
5:00 PM Eastern Time on January 8, 2016

  • Baccalaureate degree transcript* showing all undergraduate work completed prior to fall 2015, grades, and baccalaureate degree award date. Baccalaureate degree award date is not required for those applicants who have not completed the baccalaureate degree at the time of fellowship application. 
  • Graduate school transcript(s)* showing completion of all graduate work completed prior to fall 2015. Applicants who entered graduate school in fall 2015 should upload a graduate transcript that indicates grades received in fall 2015. If this is not possible, a letter from the graduate institution attesting to progress made should be uploaded by the fellowship applicant in its place.
  • Letters of recommendation (all letters must be uploaded in .pdf format). A minimum of three and a maximum of five letters of recommendation should be submitted on behalf of each applicant. Applications with fewer than the minimum of three letters submitted by January 8, 2016 will not be reviewed. If in graduate school, at least one letter should be submitted by a faculty adviser or other faculty member in the current department. 
  • Verification of Predoctoral Status (VS) Form and one-page (maximum) essay. The applicant's adviser must sign the National Academies Verification of Predoctoral Status Form confirming that the applicant requires a minimum of three years of full-time study to complete the Ph.D./Sc.D. degree as of the fall 2016 semester. In addition, applicants must verify with a one-page (maximum) statement that they still require a minimum of three years of full-time study to complete the Ph.D./Sc.D. as of the fall 2016 semester. The one-page essay must be attached to the VS Form and uploaded to the fellowship application as single .pdf document before the deadline of 5:00 PM Eastern Time on January 8, 2016. 
  • GRE General Test Scores. While the National Academies Fellowships Office encourages submission of GRE General Test scores for applicants who are not yet admitted into the Ph.D/Sc.D programs for which Ford Foundation support is sought, submitting GRE scores is optional for these applicants. GRE scores should not be submitted, and will not be accepted, from applicants already enrolled in Ph.D/Sc.D programs. See online application instructions for details.

*Unofficial transcripts or grade reports are acceptable for the review; however, if offered an award, applicants will be required to submit official transcripts to verify the accuracy of the uploaded transcripts or grade reports. All transcript documents must be saved in reduced .pdf file format and each individual file size may not exceed 4MB prior to upload. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure transcript legibility and degree attainment dates after document upload. 

PLEASE NOTE: THE PREDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP APPLICATION MUST BE SUBMITTED BEFORE ACADEMIC TRANSCRIPTS, VERIFICATION FORMS AND GRE SCORE REPORTS MAY BE UPLOADED BY THE APPLICANT. 

 

  DISSERTATION FELLOWSHIP SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIALS RECEIPT DEADLINE:
 5:00 PM Eastern Time on January 8, 2016

  • Transcript* from institution that awarded baccalaureate degree; must include grades and degree completion date (if applicable).
  • Transcript(s)* showing completion of Master's degree (if applicable) and Ph.D./ Sc.D. transcript showing all courses taken and final grades for each course completed as of fall 2015,
  • Letters of recommendation (all letters must be submitted electronically in .pdf format). A minimum of three and a maximum of five letters of recommendation should be submitted on behalf of each applicant. Applications with fewer than three letters submitted by January 8, 2016 will not be reviewed. 
  • Verification of Doctoral Degree Candidacy Form. The applicant's adviser or another official must sign the National Academies Verification of Doctoral Degree Candidacy Form confirming that the applicant has completed all requirements for the degree by January 8, 2016. The form must be uploaded to the fellowship application as a .pdf document before the deadline of 5:00 PM Eastern Time on January 8, 2016.

 POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIALS RECEIPT DEADLINE:
5:00 PM Eastern Time on January 8, 2016
 

  • Ph.D. or Sc.D. transcript* showing all Ph.D. courses taken, final grades for each course, and date of award of the Ph.D. degree. 
  • Letters of recommendation (all letters must be submitted electronically in pdf. format). A minimum of three and a maximum of five letters of recommendation should be submitted on behalf of each applicant. Applications with fewer than three letters submitted by January 8, 2016 will not be reviewed.
  • Host letter stating willingness of proposed mentor and the research site to serve as the applicant’s host. This letter is in addition to the required minimum of three letters of recommendation.
  •  Verification of Doctoral Degree Attainment Form. The applicant's department chair or adviser must sign the National Academies Verification of Doctoral Degree Attainment Form for applicants whose Ph.D or Sc.D degree has not been awarded by November 13, 2015 confirming that the applicant has met all requirements for the Ph.D./Sc.D degree including successful defense of the dissertation proposal by November 13, 2015. The signed form must be attached to the Ph.D./Sc.D. transcript file and uploaded to the application as a single .pdf document before the deadline of 5:00 PM Eastern Time on January 8, 2016.
