National Presentation at ICME-12 The United States has been selected to make a National Presentation at the upcoming congress, where the UNSC/MI is in charge of organizing a series of events such as two parallel 90-minute sessions, a week-long exhibit, and educational material. Only three to five countries are selected to make a National Presentation at every congress. The National Presentation will highlight the uniqueness and important features of mathematics education in the U.S., including the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), the role of technology, the new publication of the Conference Board of the Mathematical Sciences (CBMS) on the mathematics education of teachers, and the role and opportunities provided by all the professional organizations that fall under the CBMS umbrella (17 professional societies).
U.S.-South Korea Workshop at ICME-12 At ICME-12, the USNC/MI proposes to host a three-day post-conference workshop for approximately 40 mathematics educators and researchers (20 U.S. and 20 South Koreans) to discuss “Structuring Classrooms for Learning” at Seoul National University. The workshop will focus on how research is actually linked to practice in both countries including its use in developing a coherent curriculum faithful to the development of the mathematics, and to the ways in which children learn that mathematics.
Travel Grants to Attend ICME-12 in Seoul, Korea Applications for travel grants are now available to attend the Twelfth International Congress on Mathematical Education (ICME-12) in Seoul, Korea, from July 8-15, 2012.
