The U.S. National Commission on Mathematics Instruction (USNC/MI) plans, recommends, and encourages projects in areas of international importance in mathematical sciences education. It also advises the National Academy of Sciences-National Research Council (NAS-NRC) in all matters pertaining to the International Commission on Mathematical Instruction (ICMI).  The ICMI is a commission of the International Mathematical Union (IMU), a member union of the International Council for Science (ICSU). The IMU is an international non-governmental and non-profit scientific organization, with the purpose of promoting international cooperation in the field of mathematics.
