U.S. National Congresses

Every four years a National Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics is held in the United States at a site chosen by the U.S. National Committee. The 16th congress will be held June 27 to July 2, 2010 at Pennsylvania State University, chaired by Judith Todd.

The 15th congress was held June 25-30, 2006 at the University of Colorado, Boulder, chaired by Thomas Geers and Stein Sture.

International Congresses and General Assemblies

Every four years the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM) holds an international scientific congress. The next International Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (ICTAM) will be held August 19-24, 2012, in Beijing, China. The last congress was held in August 2008 in Adelaide, Australia (http://ictam2008.adelaide.edu.au/).

The USNC/TAM sponsors a fellowship program for U.S. researchers presenting papers at the international congresses. Further information on the fellowship program and a list of recipients for 2008 is available. Information on applying for the 2012 fellowship program will be available in late 2011.

The General Assembly meets at the congress and also once between congresses; the most recent General Assembly was during the ICTAM in Adelaide, the next meeting will be held in 2010 at a site yet to be determined. Only members of the General Assembly and invited guests attend these meetings. The U.S. National Committee sends a delegation to the meeting, which then reports back to the committee and the U.S. mechanics community as a whole.
