Analyst, Scientific Integrity Program at the Union of Concerned Scientists
He received a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Chicago, where his thesis dealt with observations and theoretical modeling of a type of exploding star known as gamma-ray bursts. His work at UCS has focused on investigating and documenting political interference in the work of government scientists at federal agencies from the Food and Drug Administration to NASA to the Environmental Protection Agency. His current focus is on crafting solutions---such as whistleblower protections, open communication of federal science and regulatory reform---to be adopted by President Obama and the 111th Congress.
Before joining UCS in 2006, he helped design an interactive exhibit to teach astronomy concepts to school-age children that was exhibited at museums in Chicago, IL and Mexico City. More information about the UCS Scientific Integrity Program can be found at
