The sponsor interest will be well defined and agreed to in preliminary discussions with the sponsor(s), and will be incorporated in the planning and implementation of the project.

The project serves a well-defined and articulated public purpose or purposes, and is clearly and unequivocally in public interest.

The project is focused on digital research data and information in an important discipline or field of science, with potential application to other disciplines, or relates to interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary digital research data and information.
Related to the strategic interests of U.S. or international science
The project involves digital research data and information strategically important to the U.S. or internationally, including a single country with substantial benefits to U.S. interests.
Potential for policy impact
The project has a high potential for beneficially influencing the U.S., international, or global policies, laws, and regulations regarding digital scientific research data and information. To that end, the project should be relevant to current and significant issues, and is timely in its planning and implementation.
Consistency with NRC guidelines
The project adheres to, and is consistent with, all the stated guidelines and procedures of the NRC for projects.
Balance within BRDI portfolio of projects
The project helps to maintain a balance within the portfolio of current and planned BRDI projects, and is consistent with the BRDI Strategic Plan.
