Rod Atkinson is the Head of Research Data at the Congressional Research Service (CRS) where he serves the Congress as a Senior Manager to the Knowledge Management Group and as a representative to the Library of Congress eScience Team. He frequently consults and collaborates with the staff of CRS, Library of Congress, the Copyright Office, and the Law Library of Congress in these major functional areas: CRS- and Library-wide electronic resources, dataset management and the derivative products produced by GIS and other quantitative analysis tools, electronic copyright deposit, and financial planning and budget. Prior to his current position he additionally supervised both the CRS legacy research repository and the CRS archives overseeing the digitization, search, and retrieval of CRS legacy research memoranda and reports from 1915 to present. Before joining CRS in 1999, he served as the Associate Librarian at the Naval Research Laboratory where he oversaw all digital library operations. He holds a Masters in Telecommunications from George Washington University and a Masters in Library Science from Catholic University.
