Dr. Deborah Crawford is the Senior Vice Provost for Research at Drexel University.
She joined Drexel in September 2010 from the National Science Foundation (NSF), where she most recently served as the Deputy of the Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering. She was recognized twice for her leadership contributions as a federal executive; in 2006, she received the Presidential Rank Award for Meritorious Service, and in 2010, she was honored with a Presidential Rank Award for Distinguished Service.
Crawford joined NSF from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where she conducted research in wavelength division multiplexed optical communication systems and in other high bandwidth photonic systems. While at the University of California at Santa Barbara, her research contributions were in the areas of electronic and photonic nanostructures, vertical cavity surface emitting lasers, and high-speed photonic components for high bandwidth communications applications. She has published extensively in these fields.
Deborah received her Ph.D. in Information Systems Engineering from the University of Bradford, and her B.Sc.(Hons) in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from the University of Glasgow, both in the United Kingdom.
