REPORT RELEASE ANNOUNCEMENT:
The U.S. CODATA and the Board on Research Data and Information (BRDI) is pleased to announce the publication of a workshop report: For Attribution—Developing Data Attribution and Citation Practices and Standards. The project was done in collaboration with the CODATA-ICSTI Task Group on Data Citation Standards and Practices. The report is available electronically at: http://www.nap.edu/catalog.php?record_id=13564 .
BRDI held the workshop in Berkeley, CA on 22-23 August 2011 to discuss how to assign credit for data (attribution) and how to reference data (citation) in ways that others can identify, discover, and retrieve them. Among the questions explored were: what approaches are generic across disciplines and what practices are field-specific; what are the major scientific, technical, institutional, financial, legal, and socio-cultural issues that need to be considered; and what are some of the options for the successful development and implementation of data citation practices and standards?
Print copies of the report may be ordered through the National Academy Press (http://www.nap.edu). Questions or comments about the project may be directed to the BRDI Board Director, Paul Uhlir, at puhlir@nas.edu.
