June Osborn President Emerita, Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation June E. Osborn, M.D., is President Emerita of the Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation. She led the Foundation from 1996 through 2007, following a 30-year career in academic medicine and public health. She was Professor of Medical Microbiology and of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1966-84, and for the last nine of those years served as Associate Dean of the Graduate School (Biological Sciences). From 1984-96 she was Professor of Epidemiology and of Pediatrics at the University of Michigan, where from 1984-93 she was Dean of the School of Public Health. During her academic career she served on NIH's Experimental Virology Study Section (1975-80), on several FDA and CDC advisory panels, and worked with a number of foundations as well as the World Health Organization. She was elected to membership in the Institute of Medicine in 1986 and served on its advisory council from 1994-2000. She is the author of over ninety publications concerning virology, infectious disease, public health and public policy. She served on the Global Commission on AIDS of WHO from 1988-92 and chaired the U.S. National Commission on AIDS from 1989 to 1993. She has received numerous honors, including nine honorary degrees and the 1994 AAAS Scientific Freedom and Responsibility Award. She currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the U.S. Pharmacopeia, the Editorial Board of the Journal of the American Medical Association, and the Committee on Women in Science, Engineering and Medicine of the National Academies.
