Special Opportunities Announced for Proposals in the Biological and Chemical Sciences -
Deadline Extended to November 16, 2009!

The Pakistan-US Science and Technology Cooperation Program annouces that its current application deadline has just been extended until November 16, 2009. Scientists, engineers, and health professionals interested in conducting joint Pakistani-US projects that will help build capacity in Pakistan and strengthen cooperative relationships between the two countries are encouraged to apply. Proposals must be submitted jointly by at least one US and one Pakistani applicant. Grants awarded in past cycles of the program have supported projects in a wide range of fields, including health, agriculture, engineering, environmental sciences, water resources management, and information technology.

As part of the current call for proposals, we are pleased to offer a special opportunity for proposals in the biological sciences, with emphasis on human and animal infectious disease, as well as best practices in laboratory management.

Another special opportunity exists for proposals in the chemical sciences that focus on best practices in chemical management, pesticide management, and chemical safety education.

Proposals in these special focus areas should be prepared and submitted using the same application form and according to the same guidelines specified elsewhere in this Web site. Interested applicants are advised to review the eligibility guidelines and application instructions carefully. Questions may be directed to the US and Pakistani program administrators listed below:
  • For applicants based at Pakistani universities: Ms. Syeda Nosheen Fatima, Program Manager, Higher Education Commission (snfatima@hec.gov.pk)
  • For applicants based at Pakistani government-sponsored research institutes: Mr. Zawar Hussain, Deputy Electronics Advisor, Ministry of Science and Technology (dea2@most.gov.pk
