Symposium on Management of
Intellectual Property in Standard-Setting Processes

The Symposium on Management of Intellectual Property in Standard-Setting Processes held on October 3-4, 2012 was one component of a study supported and sponsored by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.  The study committee commissioned 11 papers which were presented at the symposium and followed by panel discussions.

Speakers examined critical issues of standards development organizations and their treatment of intellectual property rights, especially patents. Speakers also addressed how SDOs in different countries and regions deal with issues including patent disclosure, licensing terms and expectations, and transferability. Other symposium sessions focused on standard-essential patents and U.S. International Trade Commission litigation and standards development in emerging technologies.
