UIDP New Project Charter Procedures and Form The purpose of the University-Industry Demonstration Partnership (UIDP) is to enhance the value of collaborative partnerships between university and industry in the United States. One way of doing this is by developing beta tests, tools and approaches that unify and streamline university-industry agreements. Demonstration Project – Develops, tests, or demonstrates new technology or policies in fulfillment of the UIDP mission. UIDP members represent a large and diverse set of universities, corporations, federal agencies and foundations who are all interested in advancing university/industry research relations. In order to meet the needs of its members, UIDP will consider and adopt projects that begin with proposals outlining project goals and objectives (see application form). We strongly encourage members to contact us prior to preparing and submitting project proposals. The first UIDP project is TurboNegotiator, an approach and software tool designed to minimize time-to-agreement in sponsored research between industry and academia. More recently, the UIDP received a member request from a member to explore Best Practices involved with running large U/I Centers which was recently adopted by the Executive Board as a new initiative.
Our project proposal process is intended to be streamlined and move as quickly as possible toward the rapid development of innovative and important new work for the UIDP community. Completed proposals will be reviewed by UIDP staff and the Executive Board. When a project is approved, UIDP staff will contact the project champions and work towards the development of project specifications. Process for Adopting Projects The current protocol for selection and conduct of future UIDP projects (always subject to future modification by the Board) is articulated below: - Continuous bottom up generation of project ideas by all members in regular “call for proposals”
- To be approved, projects must have both a university and an industry leader.
- Project proposals must come from paying members only.
- Final decision on projects (with consideration to financial matters) made by Executive Board. Projects that conform to requirements (co-chairs and enrolled participants and initial plan - milestones, deliverables too) will be routinely approved; notwithstanding, the UIDP Executive Board’s decision to accept or reject a project is final.
- Co-leaders may request time at Board Meeting/Call to discuss proposed project if significant decisions need to be made or information needs to be delivered.
Co-leaders can request and schedule other types of meetings to advance project and alternative activities are encouraged as appropriate.
