Susan Burkett has been the Associate Vice President for Research at Carnegie Mellon University.  Her primary responsibilities include research activities for the Vice President of Research to assure compliance with university, federal and funding agency policies. Her responsibilities include administering all proposals and contracts for the university’s $300 million research program.  Specific responsibilities include working with the provost, deans and directors on policies related to the university’s research program; authorizing all external proposals for research funding; and approving all research proposals,  contracts, and all intellectual property and licensing agreements. She has direct oversight of the Office of Sponsored Programs and Export Compliance.  She serves on numerous university committees including: Institutional Review Board for Human Subjects, Conflict of Interest Committee, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Lecturer and Special Faculty Committee, Research and Technology Commercialization Sub-Committee of the Board of Trustees, Undergraduate Research Advisory Board, and University Research Council.
